About Us...
The State of New York has a long history relative to the use of natural gas in mobile
sources. Governor Pataki was the first Governor to actively support the use of
natural gas as an alternative fuel as a means of reducing air pollution. In
fact, the state has the nation’s largest inventory of natural gas vehicles in
its fleet.
As a result of this
commitment, both private and public agencies wanted to go to the next level of
fighting dirty air. Discussions began more than a year ago about how to best
achieve this objective. Policy makers and politicians realized the danger of
air pollution to its citizens, especially in those areas with high asthma rates
that has been attributed to diesel exhaust.
By bringing together
interested parties from the private and public sectors in a partnership
atmosphere, a more concentrated and focused effort can be achieved in the fight
to clean up the air. In addition, the partnership will be able to focus on
accelerating the path to a hydrogen economy through joint efforts and the use of
new technology.
As a result of need
recognition and the desire of politicians, policy makers and private enterprise
to improve the air of its citizens, the New York/Northeast Natural Gas Vehicle
Partnership was formed with an overall objective of improving the quality of air we
breathe.
