(Dallas, TX) –- BAF Technologies, the premier provider of natural gas and propane vehicle upfits, today announced California Air Resources Board’s (CARB) full approval of BAF’s 2006 CNG Ford Crown Victoria as SULEV according to Executive Order # A-364-0007-01. The vehicle and engine family also received full EPA approval including OBD II this week.
“With the numbers we achieved, the ’06 Crown Vic is now the cleanest CNG vehicle available today,” says John Bacon, president. “We exceed the stringent standards set by CARB SULEV requirements and we now have technology that we can apply to other Ford engine families. This same technology will be used on the Ford E-450 for shuttles and should be available this summer for CNG and LPG vehicles.”
Working with Clean Energy, BAF has secured orders and additional commitments for upfitting Crown Victoria Taxis in both New York and California. This EO also covers the Mercury Marquis and Lincoln Town Cars which fall into the same engine family.
Pursuit of this CARB certification was supported by and jointly funded by SCAQMD, NYSERDA and Clean Energy. This major industry milestone will enable all teams to achieve their 2006 goals.
“This is a huge milestone for the industry,” says Bacon. “Our teams realize the long-term potential of having a vehicle on the road that is this clean and has the immediate reduction of fuel costs for fleets and of traffic congestion since these vehicles can use HOV lanes in California and several other states.”
